On 10 - 12 August the first Climate Education Forum-2016 was held in Kyiv. Forum was organized within the framework of project - Climate Forum East II. The event brought together more than 100 teachers and public activists from all regions of Ukraine, and was dedicated to integration of climate change related thematic issues in the formal and informal education system.
School teachers, university professors, activists and volunteers of non-governmental organizations, educators of formal and informal education sectors , as well as representatives of international organizations shared own experience in the field of climate change education, and discussed further cooperation possibilities between educators and the NGO sector.
Many SPARE School teachers participated in the forum sharing almost 14-year experience and achievements in the field of informal education on energy saving and energy efficient thematic issues and the environmental calendar based public awareness campaigns.
On the day first the Climate Change projects supported by various donors were presented on the Forum to discuss the integration of Climate Change related thematic issues into formal education system of Ukraine
Ekaterina Miroshnichenko, Executive Director of the NGO "Sweet Osvіt" and SPARE coordinator in Ukraine, spoke on the successfully accomplished project activities, and the ambitious plans of SPARE ENERGY HUB program.
"It's an honor for us to speak on the long lifetime project - SPARE Ukraine. Events by the Program involves more and more children each year across the country, only in 2015-2016 more than 2000 school children joined with enthusiasm to celebrate energy conservation day, and more than 80 video clips have been crated for the SPARE International Contest #DOMOREWITHLESS# to stress Climate Change issues among peers and promote energy saving and energy efficient skills in life. SPARE Program is proud of launching a new boosting phase -SPARE ENERGY HUB. We believe that the SPARE school children equipped with the knowledge will become a strong environmental proponents and energy savers setting an examples for many other peers and not only mentioned Ekaterina Miroshnichenko in her speech.
On the Form a set of specially developed games “Play and Change the World” was introduced as a good tool to develop ecofriendly skills from the school age period. On the 12 August the testing teachers training took place within the forum.
Forum organizers agreed on to hold Climate Change Forum annually, to use it as an exchange platform for school teachers and civil society organizations, and to come up with good mapping of climate change ongoing, pipeline and completed projects, also for drafting a new educational projects and seeking the ways of cooperation.
The event was held under the Climate Forum East II project funded by the European Commission, the Austrian Development Agency and the Austrian Red Cross, with the support of the National Ecological Centre of Ukraine.
